Art of Ideas 2 - Visual Exhibition

Art of Ideas 2, an array of art events and debates in the city of Birmingham launches tonight with an exhibition of works curated by Stephen Snoddy, director The New Art Gallery Walsall and Curator of British Art.

Seventeen artists are exhibiting in a display which includes fine art painting, sculpture, photography and contemporary craft and I’m one of them!

Stephen chose works from the Visual Collection and picked out my Last Flight From Brighton and Franz Joseph Glacier images as they tied in with his chosen theme of nature.

Stephen Snoddy
“We have just passed midsummer’s day and my thinking is that we should celebrate the natural world and deliberately bypass the busy urban metropolis which is directly outside the doors of Baskerville House.  City life is a fast accelerating life and time passes without contemplative thought and a slowing down is needed to appreciate the emotional impact of Nature and all that is imbued in it to survive the daily onslaught of the new technology media driven world that hinders our attachment to the enduring beauty of Nature in all its essences, outcomes, phases, beauty and cycles.”

It should be a great show and I’m delighted my works have been selected for exhibition. Especially as I involved with Art of Ideas last year when they commissioned me to photograph three Birmimgham based artists for the a limited run of prints on art maps of the city.

The Visual show runs at Baskerville House, Birmingham from today until 12th July 2009… I recommend you try and get along to this and many more of the Arts of Ideas events taking place around the city over the next two weeks.
