Black Tonic hits Manchester!

I’ve been working on and off for the last year with theatre company The Other Way Works on a fantastic site responsive piece called Black Tonic.

Set within a hotel, audience arrive 2 x 2, check into their rooms and make themselves comfortable before a journey into the dark world of Black Tonic begins. Unraveling a truly original detective story as they travel along corridors and into bedrooms, piecing together clues that uncover what really makes the hotel tick!

The show starts tomorrow at the Place Hotel, Manchester and runs until 30th November! See below for more info…

My role has been creating the video elements that suddenly start up on the televisions in the hotel rooms, be them fake CCTV footage of maids ransacking the guests bedrooms or abstract Super 8 cinefilm dream sequences that fill you in on a characters background or the current events within the narrative.

Great how my video becomes an essential tool of within the whole piece, in some ways becoming a performer in it’s own right. You’d have to see the show to understand what I mean but believe me it’s good! I shot the CCTV pieces last week at the hotel in Manchester, you can see a couple of snaps from room 502, I quickly snapped on my iPhone in between shooting the proper stuff.

The show has received praise and recommendation from the Guardian’s leading critic Lyn Gardener since its first outing at London’s sprint festival a few months back. Check her latest words about it on the Guardian website.

Last I heard there’s only five tickets still available - so if you want to experience a truly original piece of work then you best get in touch with the folk at Contact Theatre darn quick!

Cheers for the shout out Chris.  We open tomorrow night - very exciting!
