End of the Merman

This morning saw the second day of shooting for our underwater Straight 8 film Merman. We started out at 7.30am this morning and got to the pool ready to shoot more of our underwater sequences. Having spent last night working on strengthening the underwater housing we were hopeful for today.







However it seemed this years entry just wasn’t meant to be as our makeshift underwater housing let in just enough water, bringing with it humidity and a steamed up lens, which we were unable to access as the camera was tightly sealed inside the housing.







Our window for shooting was too tight today and sadly with the Monday deadline we had to realise that we were beat and call it a day for this years Straight 8…



Not all is lost though as we still plan to complete the film using Super 8 if possible, otherwise we’ll have to settle for a DV camera just to shoot the underwater scenes. It’s something which we could have done for this shoot but under the banner of Straight 8 I felt this might be considered cheating. Not as much challenge!



Don’t fear… Merman will be back with more nautical adventures! Promise!
