Last night in New Orleans

It’s about 9pm on my last night in New Orleans and I’m sat contemplating the events of the last 16 days. Looking over this image of a pick-up truck with the city’s infamous 504 dialling code printed on the rear.

About to head out to Mimi’s for the last time to enjoy some Abita (NOLA Beer) and Patas Bravas. The last two times I’ve came to New Orleans I’ve had such short but fast paced experiences. This time I’ve gained much more of a jounrey, an inside view of the city and its people.

I’ve heard lots of different stories and views about where the city should be heading. Various people who want to stay here, totally believe in the rebirth of Nola. Then others who did come back wanting to fight for the city but in the face of violence and lack of support are beginning to fade. As an ‘out of towner’ I see the city as a unique and amazing place that deserves some serious attention and love from the government at its highest level. I do fear for what the future has in store for the city and its residents.

The people on a whole here are incredible, the friendliest people I have ever met. Welcoming and supportive, those I’ve met just a few times I’d be happy to call good friends. It’s the people, the ambience of the place, riding around on my bike and ejoying life at a causal pace that I love most about New Orleans.

If circumstances ever allowed then I’d be more than happy to live here for an extended period. One thing’s for sure, a small part of me is at home here and always will be.
