Looking for Kline

This last week I’ve been working and collaborating with video artist Darryl Georgiou on his interpretation of the 70’s BBC TV series Gangsters. Originally set and shot in various locations around Birmingham, the show was pretty controversial with violence, hard drugs, strippers and a whole bunch of non PC material. It was also badly directed with poor acting, however it had a strange appeal and still does. Darryl grew up with the series as a youngster and over the years has revisited the locations, photographing and filming them. His work often relates to the city of Birmingham, time and  in subtle ways social narratives be them fictional or skewed from reality.



The blurb I’m writing comes after a week of intense editing and creative work on the prototype of Darryl’s first remake piece, in which he plays the bizarre role of ‘The White Devil’. This character was originally an assasin in the first series.... his main goal was to find and dispose of the lead character John Kline.



The video piece is featured in an exhbition for next few weeks at The Curio City Shop, Five Ways, Birmingham. In fact the launch is this evening! Recommend a visit or you can read more about it on the Test Bed site.
