Merman

Today is the day I risk all and attempt to direct and shoot another Straight 8 film. Titled ‘Merman’, it’s about a chap who loves swimming underwater, he’s slightly detached from the real world and whilst beneath the surface of the water he feels right at home… just as a Merman should! Below is a shot of Dan Burwood, the lead in the film.. New Orleans band Baby Rosebud today granted us permission to use their track ‘Mermaid’s Comb’ for the soundtrack. So it’s all starting to come together…







However Straight 8 is always quite a tricky and terrifying challenge to undertake. One roll of film, one soundtrack, in camera edit.. no messing up! The fact that this time I’ve brought underwater filming into the equation is not only ambitious but seems like an act of lunacy!







Tomorrow afternoon is the only time we can get uninterrupted access to the Moseley Rood Pool to shoot. They’ve given us 2 hours… We’ve made our own underwater housing which we’re currently fixing as it leaked slightly on our test run earlier today. To say I’m nervous about the shoot would be an understatement but then that’s the nature of the competition.
