New Orleans Polaroids

Just in from my afternoon out on a bike trip around the place, decided to shoot with the trusty Polaroid this time. Stayed on the bike and just cycled till I saw someting that I couldn’t resist photographing. Polaroid film is so expensive, it really helps put selective limitations on what you shoot.

These two shots stick out from the few I shot today. The right polaroid with graffiti about solving crimes and ending poverty seems more than relevant; especially since I’ve read and heard a lot about the increased crime rate and inexplicable killing of innocent and loved members of the New Orleans creatvite community. It’s crazy! I also heard a story the other day about how a young man of 17 years had a dispute with a school friend, he lost the row and went home. However his mum upon hearing his tale offered him a gun and told him to "go finish it". Off course that’s just what he did, killing his fellow school mate. I can’t believe the insanity of it all! From an outside perspective the city seems to be a place of serious contradiction right now. People are passionate about the city and want it to return to normality but without the support needed to turn it around things are seemingly getting worse. Or at least  that’s the perception. Again as I travelled around today people were for the most part incredibly friendly, this time focus on the left polaroid with the text ‘New Orleans Style’, people who live here are a special breed and I think downright good people that I can do nothing but repsect for championing and doing the upmost to preserve their city and turn things around.
