Supersonic Montage
Above is a brilliant montage of Birmingham’s much loved Supersonic Festival 2008 which came to an end last night under the fantastic sounds of Kraut Rockers ‘Harmonia’. (Props to You Tube user blaahhrrgg for putting this together)
The highlights of the festival for me came on Sunday with the outrageous hardcore band from Toronto aptly named ‘Fucked Up’. Chaos reigned in the space with people going mental, one mellow looking chap suddenly went into a fit when he heard the snare drum sound up, throwing himself into the pit and performing the most full on slam dance action I’ve ever seen! He was out of control and security quickly danced their way into the pit and engage him in a friendly headlock, a polite signal for him to turn down the heat! During which time the lead singer had managed to climb over the railings and perform within the crowd, slamming into everyone he met. He was an absolute dude and ended up doing himself some damage at the end of the gig via a can of Red Stripe self propelled to his brain box.
The clip of them performing over in Philly below makes all that seem like nothing though....
On a slightly more mellow tip my other highlight was French artist Pierre Bastien and his hand crafted mechanical instrument, using cogs that turned to create rhythms and simple melodies by clicking onto other parts of the board or cogs. Incredibly intricate, delicate looking and in all honesty quite difficult to explain but I did film his entire performance and will be posting on the Supersonic You Tube page at a later date. But for now watch the clip below from a totally different performance to get an idea…
