They noticed wrong!

This morning a friend contacted me with regards a seminar they’d been putting together on creatives who’d had their ideas and work ripped off by other ‘creative’ people.

During their research they stumbled upon a website called youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com, a blog site dedicated to naming and shaming those who blatantly steal other peoples work and call it their own.

One of the first posts they spotted was related to the BDE 2010 Brand Identity, a photographic logo I helped create with TAK! design and Dance Exchange back in April 2009.

The author of the post DBNI Industries claims that my work and the concept of TAK! design was a rip off of his own photographic work. He even claims that my photography isn’t even a photograph! Stating it contains computer generated graphics or swirls placed over the image of a dancer…

How wrong could he be! Time to set the record straight…

If he’d have spent any time researching his facts then he’d have stumbled across a video documentary showing me and a small team working with dancers back in April 2009 to craft the logo. The idea of a photographic logo using light painting and dance was pitched by TAK! design without any prior knowledge of DBNI’s work and it’s likely our images were created way before those that we’re accused of ripping off!

As a freelancer photographer and film maker my reputation is everything! What deeply saddens me is that another freelancer who must surely understand the importance of ones reputation would go ahead and write such a post without having the full facts at hand. There was no mention of TAK! design in the original post, but thankfully Dom Murphy, creative director of TAK! has done his best to set the record straight through his comments and blog posts. I suggest you take a read of these to get the full picture..

Also the first comment on the ‘You Thought We Wouldn’t Notice’ post is from a representative of Arts Admin pushing the author to take action against me!!! Now who knows? This may be a company I’d like to work with in the future...Yet the author of the post has now tarnished my name and put my work in a very negative light!

Last time I checked, the post had been viewed exactly 700 times! Who knows what the effects of such a misguided post might be!

Thankfully there have been numerous comments on the site requesting an apology from the author and for the post to be amended.

I’m now waiting for that apology…

It questions the integrity of the YTWWN — a site which I have previously visited and believed. Our reputations have been tarnished. How many people have read that article without reading our follow up?

I’m glad we spotted this so early. This could easily have passed us by. So Gas Face to both the original poster and the site itself.

So far there has been no response from him about this. This in itself speaks volumes — don’t start what can’t be finished.

What a joke.
